Congratulations to Moody Graham on their Merit Award in the Residential Design Category for A Gardener’s Garden in Washington, DC.
Through an iterative and collaborative process, the client and the landscape architect created a place of respite and renewal situated within a larger complex of existing garden rooms on the property.
The clients are two avid gardeners, who wished to renew one of their more formal garden rooms. This garden had ineffective drainage, soil compaction, and lacked a sense of order to the layout.
The scope of work addresses the drainage issues while providing opportunities for a wide range of ornamental plantings that bring structure to the garden and enhanced social gathering space all while complimenting both the house and the other garden rooms.
The garden intends to be an extension of the house. Order is established through use of sculpture as destination, and vertical site elements creating layers of structure, that express themselves – then disappear during the cycles of the seasons.
